In a world that seems to have just gone bonkers at times; there are three things that we can all agree on! Heaven: We all hope that’s where we’re going! The Thomaston-Upson Arts Council (TUAC) invites our community to visit the gallery (201 S. Center Street – Downtown Thomaston) to view the artwork of digital artist Danny Bates. From an early age Danny displayed an interest in art. He has always liked to draw and create art from many different mediums. After graduating from high school, he pursued and obtained a degree in art from Gordon Jr. College. At Georgia Southwestern College he switched majors to Elementary Education. He graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education and began his teaching career in 1977. His ability in art assisted his students to understand concepts in math, social studies, and science. After obtaining a master’s degree in early childhood education from Mercer University, he later added an endorsement in gifted education. His last 12 years of teaching centered around helping gifted students discover the complexity and history of art. He assisted his students in acquiring art skills in numerous mediums including drawing, painting, and sculpting. As S.T.E.A.M. activities were included in Georgia’s curriculum, art and creativity became more helpful as his students acquired new concepts and skills.

Since retirement, Danny has become interested in the world of digital art. Most of his works are now created on the iPad using the Procreate app and the Apple pencil. Danny’s work will be displayed now through May 28th. The Gallery is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (10am-5pm) and Wednesdays (10am-12pm). Come meet the artist on Saturday, April 17th (10am-3pm) during our open house.
